thank you very much for the hint. Reverting and rebuilding ffmpeg indeed fixes the playback for h264 and h265 files. ( big_buck_bunny_480p_h264.mov, 140626_720p_hm130_4s_sao_dbf_qp27.265, Hackfest_2014_-_Theo_de_Raadt_presented_arc4random_-_randomization_for_all_occasions-aWmLWx8ut20.mp4, ) Just for completeness sake, I've checked the behavior in mplayer, mpv and vlc and all are fine now.
