Dear misc@ readres,

I'm struggling with the output of who/w/last commands, at the moment
partially inconsistent IMHO.

I noticed that utmp session logging is explicitly disabled in XDM:

just22@poseidon:[~]> tail -n1 /etc/X11/xdm/GiveConsole
/usr/X11R6/bin/sessreg -a -l $DISPLAY -u none -x
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/Xservers $USER

("-u none" prevents writing records in utmp; on the other hand, even the
-x argument should be changed to /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers).

Anyone could argument about this choice? Which is the right way to
use the who/w/last commands in OBSD?

I found an old related message on tech@ [1], but with no follow-up, so I
feel alone... Nonetheless, I consider the logged user listing utilities output
consistency a very valuable matter, particularly for remote machine
administration.

Thanks in advance for your time.
