Ok, I'll change the HOWTO and add a FAQ entry ASAP. Apologies for not believing you earlier; there's posts on the web that claim one way and posts that claim the opposite, I just went by my own experience. This still leaves the issue of ccdconfig setting up the c partition as type 4.2BSD. If this can thrash the disklabel, that sounds like a serious bug.
