metamail broken, lynx ignores mailcap

Are these problems known?

Lynx ignores mailcap even after uncommenting 
PERSONAL_MAILCAP:.mailcap

metamail makes "Segmentation fault (core dumped)".

Do someone know an alternative to metamail?
