There are already a number of BIOSes out there capable of nasty (or "really cool") stuff pre-OS boot. The BIOS setup page may look like a DOS relic but it doesn't mean it actually is. F.ex. prior to Vista's launch, MS demoed a fullscreen video before any boot code was actually run. UEFI has gotten more press, and given RH an opportunity to present itself as defender of freedom, but it's really an evolution of PCs running black-box code when and where it can do most harm. -- p
