On a Supermicro H8SSL board I started using, moving non-trivial amounts of data to a USB flash drive hangs. If the USB has an OpenBSD fs, it just hangs the cp operation (or whatever) and makes other access to the drive hang. With a msdos fs it can completely hang the system to the point that I can't even log into a different TTY. Just copying a small file or doing an initial ls after mounting seems to return OK (at least at first) but moving a file larger than a couple of Meg hangs.
I tried a 4.9 install and it seems to work fine. So I upgraded that to a 5.0 install and that seems to work fine too (although, it just occurs to me that those were i386 and the 5.1 that is hanging is amd64, should it matter?). So it seems something changed between 5.0 and 5.1 that is causing this. I looked through CVS web stuff to see if anything jumped out at me, but I really don't know what I am looking for. I've also tested with a couple of different USB drives (Sandisk, LG). I've tried some different BIOS options for the USB. Anyone else have similar issues or a suggestion of something to try or what else I can do to provide better info? Thanks. dmesg follows: OpenBSD 5.1 (GENERIC) #181: Sun Feb 12 09:35:53 MST 2012 dera...@amd64.openbsd.org:/usr/src/sys/arch/amd64/compile/GENERIC real mem = 3220045824 (3070MB) avail mem = 3120263168
