I don't know pptp at all, but from your description, it seems the office router does not (manage to) establish a connection, it only accepts them. Either change the configuration of said router, configure your home machine to keep the tunnel up at all times (no clue how that would be done, or even what piece of software you're using...), or - the simplest - just start ping before leaving. ;-) Joachim
