I am using OpenBSD on a T61 and it works pretty well! I also have a T41
and - sorry, this is NetBSDs slogan - of course it runs!

I have a dockingstation for my T61 with 2x22" monitors. I want to add
another display; so I am considering to buy the Lenovo Advanced
Dockingstration to add another external graphics card (with 1x monitor)!

Has anyone tried to set up such an environment:

|---> graphic card, inside the advanced dockingstation
