Not so long ago the recommendation was to use the i386 build for a

are the advantages and shortcomings of amd64?

Thanks in advance.

Given that people run pf on P III's (me!) and Atoms, I
don't think it will matter from a speed perspective. In the
past I've always used i386, simply because its the most
common arch on the machines I have.

What you have is way overkill for probably anything
short of a massive 10G network.
