Don't mistake OpenSSH for OpenBSD. The early history is fascinating. http://docstore.mik.ua/orelly/networking_2ndEd/ssh/ch01_05.htm (I was involved in very early SunOS ports of ssh-1 and ssh-2, before OpenSSH existed.)
