well, a little bit into http://www.openbsd.org/security.html you will find this snippet: "OpenBSD 4.7 and earlier releases are not supported anymore. The following paragraphs only list advisories issued while they were maintained; these releases are likely to be affected by the advisories for more recent releases. " The rule is, and has been for some time now, that the supported releases are the most recent and the previous. As of today, that means 4.9 and 4.8 are supported. I'm sure there are other references that can be dug out with minimal effort. > How long does a version get's security support? > > If I install a version of OpenBSD then when do I have to upgrade to a fresher > version?? There is no compulsion to upgrade, but the suggested best practice is to upgrade every six months (every release) or as soon as the release you are running goes out of support (once every year). Various instructions for maintenance and upgrades are available via the FAQ. > If I install OpenBSD 4.9 on it's release date, then when do I have to > upgrade to 5.0?? (so that there is no more patches for 4.9, so I have > to install 5.0) 4.9 will be supported until 5.1 is released. - Peter -- Peter N. M.
