i ultimately wanted to try martin reindl's alpha patch on my pws500au
(even if i wouldn't have scored extra anyway), when i realized my
alpha was hosed, so i grabbed the sept 10 snapshot, installed it fine,
cvs'd src/, compiled a generic kernel, and upon reboot:

the box got hosed, but i didn't have time to investigate it further,

also tried booting without the ural device attached, same result (used to
work fine anyway). plugging, unplugging and otherwise abusing ural
keeps it working fine. with the snapshot kernel, the box behaves
absolutely normal.
