Hello together.

After i got sick with the userland pppd i switched to kernel pppoe. I set it up like the example in the manpage. Here is my /etc/hostname.pppoe0:

~ # cat /etc/hostname.pppoe0
pppoedev rl0
!/sbin/ifconfig rl0 up
!/usr/sbin/spppcontrol \$if myauthproto=pap myauthname=***** \ myauthkey=*****
!/sbin/ifconfig \$if inet 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.1 netmask 0xffffffff mtu 1488
!/sbin/route add default 0.0.0.1
link1 up

The connection is working fine, but the ifnformation i get from ifconfig and route confuses me:

        inet6 fe80::20a:e6ff:fe10:eec0%pppoe0 ->  prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x7

~ # route show

In the manpage, it says, that "0.0.0.1" works as a placeholder and will be updated at connection time (if i got that right) but it doesn't in my configuration. The output shows me, as you can see, the placeholder address but the connection is working fine (as i can send these mail to you through my router and ping and dns is working, too:

Is this the normal behaviour of kernel pppoe or should it give me the real adress of my gateway? I am using ~current as of today and my ISP is "arcor" in germany.

TIA, demsg follows
Marc

PS: i doesn't have any problems with the forced disconnection, it's wonderful (except the confusing output). keep on the good work.
