I would like to use lesstif, instead of openmotif, for licensing
reasons with applications such as xpdf, xfm, etc., but the ports
system appears to not just favour openmotif, but require it. For
instance, with xpdf, setting USE_MOTIF to no in the Makefile--with
lesstif already installed--results in:

> snip <
/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.39.0: undefined reference to
`_Unwind_SjLj_Resume_or_Rethrow'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
gmake[1]: *** [xpdf] Error 1
gmake[1]: Leaving directory
`/usr/ports/textproc/xpdf/w-xpdf-3.00p3/xpdf-3.00/xpdf'
gmake: *** [all] Error 2
*** Error code 2

top in /usr/ports/textproc/xpdf (line 1769 of
/usr/ports/infrastructure/mk/bsd.port.mk).
> end snip <

I checked the xpdf website, and they indicate that lesstif is
perfectly functional. What is the appropriate way to do this via
the ports system?

This is 3.7-stable, using the 3.7 stable ports, both cvs
checkouts being from Wednesday night.
