re i know lots of you folks use samba and am sure would love to have the utmp support for it (to get all of your critters show up in w(1) jut like w/ ftpd).
i've tried to talk to the samba developers about admitting the change for it that i cooked from the ftpd (of course ;) and yet they are being complete pricks insisting on using login(3) that is wrong or some kind of bloated API from loonix that does not exist anywhere else anyway. so the bug report is https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2798 and if you consider the change proposed right please do not hesitate to tell 'em that. 10x cu -- paranoic mickey (my employers have changed but, the name has remained)
