Without crypto (either software or driving an accelerator card), the net4801 runs out of steam transmitting at around 25Mbit/sec on OpenBSD (seems to be regardless of nic.. I haven't tried the cheap sk I just got from Maplin, but em/rl/sis are similar speeds). Standard PCs are a lot faster (even at similar MHz speeds), but of course miss the advantages of the Soekris boards. <http://lists.soekris.com/pipermail/soekris-tech/2005-March/022860.html> shows their future directions (including a mobile Athlon 64 board, but not for some time).
