After switching to teaching at Ohio State University he became interested in studying and collecting meteorites. After his career at NASA he became a missionary in Africa. It was he where he helped recover numerous specimen from the Gao strewnfield. He built a spectacular collection with a wide variety of localities from around the world.* *The collection was sold by Bonhams in May of 2020.
