Good idea. It turns out that I can do that (it's a setting called 
caption-offset)
and doing that is indeed an improvement.

I don't see any way to change it, and I think it's fine anyway. It creates an
interesting "exploding" effect at the beginning.

Sadly, Gource doesn't have a way to control that. Or more accurately, it
has a way to prevent showing the second part, and I use that control, but
sometimes it ignores the control.

I'd have to wallow into the gource source code to change that, and I don't feel 
like it :-).
