Just responding to this because it's kind of relevant: Is it possible to use PKG_CHECK_EXISTS and PKG_CHECK_MODULES instead of calling pkg-config directly? Users who don't have libclc (and didn't request it) currently see something that looks like an error, twice no less. Package libclc was not found in the pkg-config search path.
