But calloc takes size_t, and size_t is unsigned. That makes this look a little weird. The problem is when rep.busIdStringLength is INT_MAX, the problem occurs when it's UINT_MAX. Right?

Even this is only a problem because of calloc's zero size handling behavior:

    If nmemb or size is 0, then calloc() returns either NULL, or
    a unique pointer value that can later be successfully passed
    to free().

Doesn't this have a similar overflow issue? If rep.busIdStringLength is UINT_MAX-2, the result is 0.
