sounds a bit like https://reviews.llvm.org/D62707. static inline function might be internalized/marked alwaysinline. CLOVER_DEBUG=llvm would tell more. I'm not sure why it'd produce GPU hangs. It might be a llvm-git bug, my daily testing only covers CL piglits.
