Generally distros can handle regressing numbers, it's just a minor irritation. All else being equal, I'd say let's make our release be a number larger than the previous Mesa version that GLw was shipped under. Looks like release.sh from xorg doesn't cover anything currently under mesa/, so I guess idr or Brian will know best what's expected for Mesa-project releases?
