Do you think that OSS > companies doing work for MeeGo don't get paid as does closed source companies > ? Right on Kate. A quick scan of the kernel will show contributions from a lot of companies - even Microsoft has committed GPL code! And I'm certain whoever wrote that code got a paycheck! Free Software is not a hobby. > > OpenGL drivers are owned by HW companbies that makes money by selling HW as > does Nokia > selling devices. Closed source is just a vestige of an old industrial system that moved at a snail's pace. Nowadays, you get a patent and by the time the ink is dry on the contract, someone has invented something cooler. > If some competitor really likes > knows ecrets, they can reverse engineer the code. Which they do anyway! And they do it badly! But its cheaper so they think that competing at a lower price point will bring them customers and they are disappointed when no one buys their crappy hardware.
