The Android app layer is anything but thin.

Remember that their entire API offering is in Java, built on top of non-
standard Linux libraries.

Getting an Android app environment is not trivial. Especially if you want to 
use standard Linux libraries and middleware, you'll have a lot of porting work 
to do.

The alternative is to drop the Android API from your Java app. I don't know 
what's left of your app then.
