Subject: How to get Meditech Client Server to work on Windows Vista

Susan, please forward to the L.

As you probably know, Meditech will not install on Windows Vista. I
have been able to play around with it and get it to work properly.

1. Install the full Meditech client to a standard Windows XP
computer, including any additional clients, PCS, EMR... (Live and Test)

2. Navigate to the C:\Program Files folder, and then back up the
Meditech folder to some external media, USB Flashdrive

3. Also, copy the Meditech icon from the Windows Desktop to your
external media as well.

4. Insert the flashdrive into your new Windows Vista computer, and
after it installs the hardware, browse out to the flashdrive.

5. Copy the Meditech folder out to your C:\Program Files folder.

6. Copy the Meditech icon out to your Desktop

7. Right click on the Meditech icon on your desktop and go to
Compatibility

8. Turn on the check mark for "Run this program in compatibility
mode for:" and select Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5)

9. Under Privilege Level, turn on the check mark for "Run this
program as an administrator"

10. Hit OK to save.

Meditech will now function 100%, including the EMR and PCS clients.
While I don't suggest you use this in a production environment, it is
nice to use for testing purposes. You will notice that you are prompted
about security settings everytime you start the Meditech client. This
can be easily turned off by editing your Local Security Policy.

To edit the policy,

1. Go to Control Panel, then into Administrative Tools, then into
Local Security Policy.

2. Expand Local Policies, then Security Options

3. Modify the policy called "User Account Control: Behavior of the
elevation prompt for administrators in Admin Approval Mode" and set it
to "Elevate without prompting" and hit OK.

Now Meditech will function in Vista, and you will not get the annoying
Vista security prompts every time you try to run the Meditech Client.

Enjoy!
