I'm not sure there is much of a distinction between Meditech as an electronic record and Meditech as a printed record. Now, I only have experience within HCA's version of Meditech. But my experience is that after 45 days the record archives and we are no longer able to access the record through View History. So, what ever we have set regarding the archiving is what we are able to see. So, that and the labs, etc that pull into PCI are the "electronic" record. Add to that the idea that you probably would be required to print a record for an attorney since we don't have a good way to "export" the record to a CD with a viewer, and I don't see that Meditech as an electronic record is that big of a deal.
I always recommend looking at how you want folks to be able to see the record if you have to print it, even if your practice is to not print the record. Somehow this statement seems suspect to me. Can that possibly be true in the same state that Meditech is based in?! Meditech should assist you in meeting your state's requirements. 2. Your state should join the rest of us in the 21st century. As we continue to move forward with the advanced clinicals, (PCS,eMAR,EDM, PCM, RXM etc.) Medical records is finding it increasingly difficult to produce a printed copy of the record upon discharge. Our state does not currently recoginize the electronic record as the legal medical record. This leaves medical records printing the chart upon discharge. First, there is no one place that MR can go to print the entire record, leaving them to go to the individual modules which is quite time consuming. Second the quality of the printed record, organization, font size etc just does not lend itself to readability. Are there solutions out there that people are using that allows for one stop printing of the record in a readable, easy to follow and readable format? Thanks for any help you can give with this issue. Danielle J.
