Hi Everyone,
One person's view of the recent 2007 International MUSE conference.
If I could summarize this year's show it would be to say that it was a
return to normal. The past two years in Orlando and Las Vegas were
different. In Orlando the "hotel" was really more outdoors than
indoors. Hence many people had long walks in the hot Florida sun to the
show area. Lets say it wasn't my favorite part. In Las Vegas, the
hotel was very large and all routes to anywhere included a trip through
the casino. Lots of distractions and not the best layout. This year,
however, everything was in one big, nice hotel. Even the overflow
hotels were conveniently close. You took the elevator right to the
convention floor. The layout was good, the breakout rooms were close
and we could just concentrate on our purpose in being there. Workshop
attendance seemed to be higher this year also. The one exception was
that the vendors were in two rooms. For the vendors in the overflow
room, this wasn't the best layout although some were there due to their
own fault in case you were wondering how some long time MUSE members
ended up there. The point is that the show was the focal point and not
some distraction.

Another note this year was the return of several familiar faces who
hadn't attended in 5-7 years. I won't mention them by name but it was
good to see some familiar faces. On the other hand there were some who
missed yet another year. I hope more of you will attend next year.
One of the people who didn't attend this year was Pat Malloy from
Ministry in WI. Pat and I are now tied for the number of international
conferences attended. The last conference Pat missed was 1987. Has
anyone else out there attended this many?

We found attendees this year were interested in taking the time to
learn about products in depth. We had lots of people pull up a chair
and take a long hard look at what we were showing. I noticed this also
going on at other booths. We continue to believe that one of the main
reasons members attend the conference is to learn about the different
products available to Meditech users. Do you agree?

I was hopeful to see more about Meditech C/S 6.0. There was a
session given by the first 6.0 site in West Georgia. Very entertaining
but other than some screen shots provided by Meditech, they didn't have
many details about the product...yet. Maybe next year. I continue to
believe that the C/S 6.0 "upgrade" is a significant (both good and bad)
event that most C/S users are not aware of. C/S 6.0, in my opinion,
represents the biggest Meditech upgrade since the migration from MIIS to
MAGIC. While I'm on the subject of next year, there is some question as
to where the 2008 conference will be held. It might be in Miami Beach
and it might not. Stay tuned to the MUSE web site as Alan told me that
his goal is to have the site determined by the time of the Summer Board
meeting on July 13.

The only negative was the weather. Yes it was sunny in San Diego
but quite cool on the waterfront. I liked the idea of a low key, fun,
outdoor cookout for the Big Event. Problem was that it was so cool that
you ate your meal, sat a short while and then ran inside. This was one
aspect that Alan and the MUSE board couldn't control. On the other
hand, they did control the rest and it was another well run, valuable
conference. Congratulations on a job well done. We're already
planning for the regionals in the fall and for next year's international
show...wherever it is. I hope you'll all be there.
