We are going live with Meditech 5.61 on Sunday and I just finished a full day of Pyxis testing using a Pyxis test system (don't let Pyxis hear that I said this because they loaned us a set-up for testing and aren't supposed to). I've listed my testing criteria and some problems I ran into below (the inventory ones are present in 5.5 also). The main problem that we ran into was that billing messages from override medications removed from Pyxis weren't crossing over to Meditech and in fact created a lock. I've posted that issue at the end so that you can see what that was. The Pyxis emulator did pick up this problem, but it lacks a lot of things like returning to a return bin, wasting meds, etc. You would think that a company as large as Meditech would lease some dispensing cabinets to test things out in a live environment, but I guess they just don't want to spend the money and want us to do the testing. Please let me know if I missed anything in the testing and I'll add it to the document. I feel that each time a user goes through an update, that a check list should be used to make sure everything works correctly. We've had problems with the Pyxis-Meditech interface each and every time that we've done an update, so beware, look this over carefully, and let me know if there are any other testing scenarios that I should go through; I'm sure I missed some, especially since the way Pyxis and Pharmacy inventory interface is very problematic.
Thanks, Charlie Downs Washington County Hospital Load a medication - relieves main inventory (PI) of the amount loaded - adds the amount loaded to the subinventory of the pyxis machine - adds the medication to the inventory of the medication on page 3 of the drug dictionary Unload a medication - adds the amount loaded to the main inventory (PI) - removes the medication from the subinventory of the pyxis machine - removes the medication from the inventory of the medication on page 3 of the drug dictionary Remove a profiled medication on a patient - shows up under billing as the correct medication and correct quantity removed - relieves the subinventory of the pyxis machine only - bills correctly Return a profiled medication on a patient - shows up under billing as the correct medication and correct quantity returned - returns to the return bin - relieves the subinventory of the pyxis machine only- It deletes one from the subinventory, then adds one back. It does not add to any inventory when you place the medication in the return bin. When you unload the return bin, it removes that medication from page 3 of the drug dictionary unless you block the unload message as we currently do. I'm not quite sure of exactly what happens to the sub or main inventory if you don't block the message - credits correctly Wasting a medication - remove medication then waste and credit that medication (When returned it takes the subinventory to zero no matter what it previously was. It evidently looks at the Pyxis message for a waste with credit was a pocket unload but doesn't change the main inventory) - remove medication and waste without a credit - should not change main or subinventory Change station to a non-profile station - removal creates stock Rx and bills patient. Remove multiple medications one right after the other (recommend at least 10) - return credits CORRECT Rx. Return at least 5 medications and make sure that they credit the correct Rx Remove a split order (e.g.: Prednisone 5 mg + 10 mg = 15 mg dose) - removal debits correctly (Charges the correct price but shows the number billed as 1 instead of 2; did a manual debit and it does show 2 - relieves the subinventory of the correct amount Return a split medication - credits the patient for the correct charge. When returned, does nothing to the sub or main inventory because of the return bin and shows up under billing inquiry as 1 returned instead of 2, but no errors created when one goes under #71 PROCESS ERRORS Dose ranges using Pyxis variable dose function - debits for the correct dollar amount - relieves the sub-inventory of the correct quantity Make sure screen scrape works for Pyxis scanning - any change to a the patient screen can result in orders not linking to patients DTS#6921 Enter order for KCl 20 mEQ bid with PI as inventory. Remove 1 and make sure that it deducts from the machine inventory and not PI DTS#7422 Transfer patient from dispensing machine location (2E) to a non-dispensing machine location (4E). Run a refill list and make sure that it only charges from that time that they were transfered DTS#7670 Enter an order. Check the price. Remove one. Go into the drug dictionary and change the price. Remove one - make sure that it is the new price. DTS#7678 Transfer patient from 2E (non-dispensing machine inventory) to 4E (dispensing machine inventory). Discontinue the order and make sure that the medications auto-credit. <https://www.meditech.com/programs/ams.exe?TYPE=OnLine&WAC=WAC> Washington County Hospital Association <https://www.meditech.com/programs/ams.exe?TYPE=OnLine&WAC=WAC> Charlie Downs This connection to <http://www.meditech.com> MEDITECH.com is https/ssl secured.
