Hi Debby/Gary- I'm all about automating a process when possible - you walk in your shop in the morning and those mentioned reports are sitting on your report printer or in an email. IV to PO, Renal Dosing, real time LAB Verify rules for aminoglycosides, and the use of MIS Notifications to "notify" your Pharmacists of any other specific event you see fit. Are you utilizing the DUE functionality? Collecting data and reporting to your P&T Committee is a huge part of Clinical Pharmacy and quite often overlooked. I could go all day, but if visualize the outcome/output you want and then work backwards to the solution I think you'll find that MEDITECH can be pushed to accomplish a lot more than just a med label. We are considering "remodeling" our current process to maximize the efficiency of our pharmacist's time. We are a 59-bed hospital with 2 full time pharmacists + some prn help. So we focus on a daily print-out from our Meditech system of the patients on the list of high alert drugs that we check into (eg. iv antibiotics to check c&s/need for antibiotics/WBC response, etc; aminoglycosides to check levels and renal function; phenytoin to check levels/albumin, etc). Also we get a print-out from the lab of all patients with creatinine clearances <50ml/min or serum creatinine >1.3 to check doses. And we look at labs for our TPN patients. What other time-efficient procedures could we follow?
