I think the Status Board is a fantastic way for Nursing to see new orders in
general - LAB, RAD, MED, etc. You can also add a second tray to your
printers and have the POM Order Sheets print to that location.and use
colored paper to really drive it home.

I have found that optimizing the POM build to aid in "ease-of-use" is the
key to increasing end user utilization. There has to be something in it for
them, unfortunately, and I'm also assuming you had physician input with the
build?

Best of luck - Kevin.

Subject: [SPAM] [MEDITECH-L] POM/CPOE Processes (Resending....sorry for the
priorPGP problems!!!)

We are struggling with POM trying to bring it live. We have a small group
of physicians who are working with us (Information Systems) to work through
issues and streamline processes. We have some questions for those of you
who are finding success with this implementation.

How do your nurses know when a physician has placed an order? Have you
built some sort of alerts? Status board? Other method?

Are you still printing Lab results and Radiology reports to the nursing
units?

If you are how are you handling this problem? (We are printing the orders
from POM when a physician places the orders. These become mixed in a huge
stack of orders, results and reports, and orders are being missed. Then
physicians are being called again because the nurse doesn't realize that the
order has already been placed. Thus, the physicians are getting angry.)

Any feedback, ideas, assistance will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Laura Wilson
