Subject: [MEDITECH-L] CWS questions

We are in the beginning stages of setting up a Centralized Scheduling
office. I would appreciate feedback from any facility who may already
have a centralized scheduling office up and running. We currently
already use the Community Wide Scheduling module of Meditech but we are
using it in a de-centralized fashion. Listed below is the main
information I am looking for at this point but I welcome any other input
that you may have.
1. How many schedulers do you have and what are the office hours of your
scheduling office? 9 schedulers and 1 coordinator, hrs of operation=M-F
6a-9p, not sure what they are now on Saturday if any..were 8a-12pm

2. Do you have an OR module and if so, what are you using? Just went
live with Meditech's ORM in Feb 2007

3. Do you schedule inpatient rooms, i.e. surgery overflow patients? No

4. What departments are scheduled through the centralized scheduling
office, i.e. Surgery, Outpatient RAD, Outpatient LAB, Physician clinics,
etc.? The Sched dept does all radiology areas,
respiratory/pulmonary/ekg, cardiac rehab, nutrition, some lab tests such
as glucose tolerance tests, sweat tests, all other labs are walk ins.
Surgery is scheduled by the OR secretaries. Physician clinics and chemo
is scheduled by the clinic dept.

5. Do you have any job descriptions that you could send me for the
schedulers? I can get them from HR if you would like them.

6. Is the scheduling department it's own department or does it fall
under the umbrella of another department, i.e. Patient Accounting,
Admissions, etc.? Their manager is Manager of Pt Registration/Scheduling
but they have a coordinator who is just scheduling

7. Are you doing any type of Medical Necessity checking during the
scheduling process? They do use ARM for authorizations and are working
on implementing a medical necessity piece now.
