Hi Mary.

We currently add Group Term Life and Fringe Payments to the FIT, SIT, and
FICA base using the following method:

1. Define the Adjusted Gross Earnings for FIT and FICA via the "Withholding
to Subtract From Gross Amount To Define ADJ.GROSS" entries.
2. Enter the following as the EMPLOYEE BASE EXPRESSION: ADJ.GROSS+C[#]
*where [#} = the W/H Number of the EmployER portion to be added,
enclosed in square brackets

This takes the Adjusted Gross as defined by the "Withholding to Subtract
>From Gross Amount To Define ADJ.GROSS" section, then adds the EmployER (C)
W/H amount for that pay period, so that the FIT and FICA Base Earnings is
now equal to Adj. Gross + the Employer poriton of the applicable W/H.

**Note: The EmployER Portion of the W/H code must first be computed as part
of the W/H in order to use the C[#] Variable. So for example, in your
Partner's Coverage W/H, there must be an EmployER Expression defined. The
Variable C[#] then, can be used or pulled into another W/H.

**Note: To use one W/H value in another W/H computation, the W/H Number that
is referenced in the Variable must preceed the current W/H Number. So for
example, if the FIT W/H Number is 200, then the Partner's Coverage W/H
Number must be less than or preceed 200 (i.e., 80).

**Note: If you are not computing the EmployER portion on that W/H, then
options are to hard code an Amount in place of the C[#] Variable within the
W/H Dictionary (must be the same amount for all participants) or perhaps to
use a T[X] (Table) Variable to store / reference your EmployER amounts (if
the amounts vary).

And, of course, as I'm sure you know, you'll want the Test this out
thoroughly in TEST before moving to LIVE.

There are many different Variables that can be referenced in a W/H formula.
If you're not familiar with these, go to the EmployEE or EmployER Expression
line in the W/H Dictionary (Enter/Edit) and select the [F1] Help key.
Select the Payroll Expressions, Variables, and Formulas link, then the
Variables link, for a listing of all Variables available in the W/H
Dictionary. Click on the individual Variables for a description of each.

Hope this helps. If you have any questions as you attempt to build this
formula, please feel free to call.

Thanks.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] PP: Withholding Codes for Medical Ins

Has anyone set up withholding codes for medical insurance contributions
for an employee with a civil union partner ?

I know that the employee's contribution for the partner's coverage can't
be pre-tax for FIT, FICA & Medicare thru our Section 125 Plan but is
pre-tax for our state income tax. I understand how to set that up with a
separate WH Code for that portion of the contribution which would be
deducted from the BASE in the State Income Tax WH Code but not from the
FIT, FICA & Medicare WH Codes.

The part I am struggling with is how to add the employer cost of the
partner's coverage to the employee's federal wage bases (FIT, FICA &
Medicare) since that cost is imputed income to our employee.

Thanks
