Dee Ramirez Delnor-Community Hospital (630) 208-4251 -----Original Message----- From: Jessica Ramirez Sent: Thursday, August 31, 2006 11:08 PM To: Deanna Ramirez; '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: RE: [MEDITECH-L] ED Greeter Position Hi Kimberly, Our "Service Ambassador" for the ER is currently involved in assisting patients out of vehicles (meeting them outside before they come inside and ask for help), filter patients from visitors from other types of patients. She escorts patients to ER rooms as well as visitors to other parts of the hospitals. She also is in charge of making sure we have wheelchairs available in ER. This person assists in copying various registration documents (consents, privacy notices, etc) and of course any other duties as assigned by management. The shift for this position is 7:30a-4p. We do not have an ambassador in the evenings. Unfortunately, we are in the process of eliminating this position from our department. We are removing the position because this person does not know how to short form, long form or do any general registration fucntions with regards to ADM. She was given the option to learn registration and ADM and continue her position, but she declined. Our steps after receiving her denial of the new position are to make an extra registrar, who knows how to register all patients, avail to the short-former if she needs help. We have also looked into inviting volunteers work the front lobby as well to do the same tasks. We feel that any member of registration ought to be able to register a patient. Word to the wise: We have often received comments from administration expressing that this person could be better utilized if she could actually register a patient. They look at her as an "extra body." She did, however, help with our patient satisfaction scores in terms of wait time before being noticed by staff. Setup: We have our service ambassador at a wood desk in the ER lobby with a very visible view of the parking lot. This also serves as her workspace for putting packets together as needed. The person currently in this role does not check in patients (short form). She does, however, have access to the tracking screen and our ADM module so she can view which rooms patients are in in order to take family members back to their loved ones in rooms. If she did not have access to ADM or the tracker, her job would be much more difficult. She also has access to our communication systems (MOX) in Meditech. She has no further access than ADM, EDM & MOX. If you have any other questions, I am happy to answer and help in any way. Thanks! The meditech-l web site is MTUsers.com ====================================== If you are using a paid person (not a Triage RN) in the ED to greet and gatekeep patients as they arrive, I would like to have some brief information on their primary duties. Especially, what ties they have into the Meditech system? Do they do a short reg on these patients? Do they have access to the ED tracker? If you are willing to share a job description as well, that would be much appreciated.
