Hi,

Which model are you using, and what are you switching from ?

We're just in the process of switching from 3COM-3100s to DIGI PortServer TS
16s, and one problem is that, at least on this model, the signals from the DIGI
don't match the signals from the 3COM (i.e. they're on different pins), so you
have to make up (or buy if you can find a source) new 25 / 9 pin connectors. On
the DIGI TXD is on 4 (on the RJ45), RXD is on 5, and SG is on 6.

Have you tried driving an HP Laserjet (or whatever printer you use) via the
DIGI ?
http://www.meditech.com/prsystems/Pages/SYSmcSCWIRE_82.htm

Set the printer to use XON/XOFF and you should only need the 4 - 3, 5 - 2 and 6
- 5 connections.

Also, are you configuring the ports via Telnet through Meditech OPS, or using
the web-based configuration utility ? If you're using the web-based utility,
then DON'T set a port profile - this seems to be the kiss of death for getting
them to work with analysers.

I found that just checking that the basic serial parameters (Baud / Data /
Parity / Stop) match those of the analyser, and leaving all other parameters at
theit factory settings was good enough.

Finally, when you say you get an error opening the port do you mean <<Cannot
open to port.>> ? There are various possible reasons for that (setup of
termserver in OPS, port configuration on the server, connections in the serial
connector, another job on Meditech etc..).

I should check the connectors you're using are correct, and take it from there.

Hope this is of some help. Please come back to me if if you've got any
questions.

Regards,

Bob Willcox,
LAB IT Manager,
HCA London.

To all

Does anyone have any better documentation (or guidance) on
setting up DIGI term servers with the lab instruments? I have everything
setup correctly in OPS according to meditech, but when I do a device watch
it gives me an error of opening port. I have tried it with the port off
and on.
