Hello Johanna,

Interbit Data's MPrint Server is being used by many Meditech sites to keep an up to dated copy of reports on a local server so that should the network go down scheduled or not, you will have the ability to print off the most recent version of the report and documents during those occasions.

MPrint Server gives you the ability to define PCs and/or printers attached to PCs throughout your organization as MEDITECH devices. Printers can be shared even when they do not have Network Interface Cards (NICs) or terminal server ports. Reports can be automatically directed to PC hard drives via MEDITECH spooling utilities. MPrint Server runs as a background service on the Microsoft Windows platform and allows you to define multiple instances and rules in one program, offering better performance and simpler operation

I have attached a demo copy of MPrint Server for you to try. If you think it will do what you are looking for, the cost is a site lic. at $2495.00.

The following is how HCA is handling the eMAR down time. If you have any questions or would like additional information please call me or visit us at www.interbitdata.com.

HCA North Texas Division – eMAR and Unscheduled Downtime

The Challenge – How do we handle unscheduled downtime?

24-hour printed MAR could be so old its useless • Scheduling and downloading from Meditech a very manual process

Our Solution – Mprint from Interbit Data, Inc.

Schedule MAR to print 1 hour after each hospital’s med pass times • Using Mprint the Meditech printer port is defined as a remote printer. Mprint listens on that port and stores the printed file in whatever PC or Server folder you define.

You may set up as many remote printers and Mprint folders you require to save reports. Reports are saved in the native output format of the printer type you defined in Meditech. Control characters, carriage returns, etc.

Mprint added a backup folder to the software for us at no additional charge. It is now part of their standard. The software will automatically move the last printed file to a backup folder before saving your current print file in the current folder. That way we always have at least two versions available.

Printing the saved print files from your PC or Server:

Free PC Software called Free Raw Print • DOS commands

Capture additional unscheduled downtime events using Mprint:

Schedule Laboratory Cumulative Summary Reports • Schedule Future Orders • Schedule Nursing Documentation

Additional functions of Mprint:

Give all Meditech Users the ability to print to a PC based printer • Execute an application to handle a captured print file • Play a .wav file to notify a user that a print job has been received.

Please call me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Oscar Beninati

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Downtime processes for clinical documentation

We have our nursing staff utilizing Standards of Care and placing all of the admission screening, assessments and acknowledgement of basic tasks within PCS.  In two weeks we will have the Plan of Care online.  Respiratory Therapy, Physical Medicine and Rehab (PMR), Dietary, Case Management, Chaplaincy, etc are also online with their documentation.

With the go live of the Plan of Care we do not have a streamlined, efficient way to revert to paper if there is an unexpected, extended downtime.  (We have not experienced much downtime, however Murphy's law always prevails: if you do not plan for it, it will happen)

What do other sites do for downtime??

Thanks in advance,
Jo Samara, RN, BSN
