This question is for any Client Server (5.4 or
5.5) sites where the Physicians are entering med orders for
pediatric patients in POM for the EDM module.
1. How are you building order strings for medications that the MD orders as
mg/kg so that the mg/kg shows in the order string? Are you using zero
dosing and then adding the mg/kg in the comments or have you found another way
to do it.
2. How are you handling the ED EMAR with these types of orders?
Currently the ED EMAR (which we call EMAR light for obvious reasons) shows the
DRUG ID and the TRADE name on the EMAR. (The inpatient EMAR shows the
TRADE and GENERIC name). The problem with using the DRUG ID is that
most of the drugs have the strength in the drug ID. Therefore,
the MAR entry would show the drug ID first with the strength of the drug,
then the Trade name and finally the actual order. The Pharmacy feels
that this could possibly cause a serious medication error.
FENTANYL 100 MCG/2 ML (DRUG
ID)
SUBLIMAZE
(Trade Name)
1 mcg/kg (actual order)
Does anyone have any solutions other than making a new drug for each peds
string and removing the strength from the Drug ID on those drugs?
thanks,
