I found a solution for my problem of the web not working. I hope this
isn't a frequent problem, and that I'm just wasting bandwidth.
Anyway, as David pointed out, my MTU for ppp0 was 1006 instead of 1500
as I was supposed to be so I did a:
ifconfig ppp0 mtu 1500
and it the web now works!
Strange. Anyway, now my question is: Is this kludge the proper way to
do things?
