You shouldn't apply the patch. When you recompile
your kernel, make sure you have prompt for experimental or incomplete
drivers. Then when you are in the network settings part, say yes to the
ipautofw support. Then you just use the executable (ipautofw) from the
package you downloaded without patching the kernel, and it should
work.
