Thanks for the response ...

Well, yes. I'm running the LCP echoing the whole time, and it works
for a variable amount of time ... up to a couple of minutes of time
during which the box is doing any masquerading/forwarding. When
pppd's debug option is set, I can see the LCP EchoRepl's coming back
in from the server... then they just stop.

That is what I was hoping .. I even got my ISP to update their
firmware on the Ascend's answering the call just in case .. didn't
really help. Now I've noticed the correlation between using the
inside hosts and the connection dropping, so I hesitate to force the
issue into their laps - I really can't get it to die unless I'm
exercising the masquerading.

No, I don't think you're wrong... That's part of why the problem is
so perplexing .. ;) I'm really quite baffled about how the
forwarding is affecting it ..

That is a good suggestion - I'll take a look.

Thanks - again, I appreciate the input .. If anything else occurs to
you, please feel free to share.. ;)
I hope you don't mind me CC'ing this to the list - I'm hoping your
suggestions will tickle somebody else's brain ..
