Hey David,
I see your name all the time on lists answering
questions, so maybe I can pay you back by letting you know
what I have found out. I use a program called SpeakFreely
http://www.fourmilab.ch/speakfree/unix/

It works well on Linux, and on NT. My girlfriend talks to her
Dad in another city using the NT version, connected to a Linux box
as a masq'ed gateway to a dial-up account.

The NT version has a much better interface (IMHO) than the
command-line or TCL/TK version of the Linux SpeakFreely.

The underlying technology of the code is extremely good. Using
GSM compression, there are no sound gaps and the quality rivals
that of a telephone. The source code is freely available, and it would be
nice if
someone could create a better Linux interface for it.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions.

Barton Hodges
