Another guess,
When you configure your kernal using the configuration utility, it asks you if you
wish to
configure your TCP/IP for use as a workstation or as a router. If your machine is
configured as a workstation,
then it is doing copys and checksums to optimize host performance. This is however a
waste on a machine that is forwarding most of its packets, and will reduce
performance........
