Hi, I think I am having some problems related to IP masquerading, either
that or it is modem trouble. I have a Linux box running Kernel 2.0.34 and a
Windows '98 machine. I ran some tests and when I downloaded a 200k file from
this one ftp site, the average transfer rate was about 1.8 kBps, and it
finished transferring the file in about 2 minutes and 10 seconds.

I then disconnected my linux machine from the internet and then connected my
Windows computer to the internet using dial-up-networking. I downloaded the
same file and got transfer rates of around 5 or 6 kBps and finished the
download of the same file in 30 seconds.

I also did another test. I used NCFTP on my linu box to connect to that same
ftp site and download the same file. First of all, the download did not even
finish, second of all, the transfer rate was still about 1.8 kBps.

This is kind of Ironic because I purposely put my best modem into my linux
box and left my crappy one in my windows machine.

Anyone have any clues as to what could be wrong?

(Also, for all you people that have used 10baseT and a hub for Networking,
what kind of transfer rates do you get over the network? I know there must
be something wrong with my hub because I only get like 200 kBps, and when I
connect two of my computers directly using 10base2 (which is apparently even
slower), I get transfer rates at around 800 kBps.)
