There's a program called "diald" which does exactly that, and I've 
been using it at client sites for about a year now, with great 
results.  I don't have a reference in front of me, but try 
"www.loonie.net/~exchenk".  There's also a pretty active mailing 
list.  I can get you subscription info if you want.  

Some of the people on that mailing list have had troubles with Red 
Hat's RPM distribution, so I would get the source and the latest 
source patch, and just compile it yourself.  David Ranch's big doc, 
"trinityos.wri" has some good stuff about it, too.  He's on the list, 
and you can find this doc from his web site.
