You need to replace the stock Linux IDENT process with one of the
many MASQ-capible IDENTs. They will then allow the Indet traffic
to be forwarded (kinda like the FTP module, etc) to the MASQed
machine.
Personally, I allow Ident through my ANAL ipfwadm ruleset
but I've then configued my /etc/inetd.conf to NOT spawn ident.
Note: This will kill IRC connections though.
Anyway.. I beleive that Mident is heavily used by the IRC dudes
out there. Can anyone that has used some of these Ident daemons
chime in here and give any pro/con thoughs?
Mident: ftp://ftp.code.org/pub/linux/midentd/
Sident: http://insecurity.net/sidentd.gz
Few others ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/network/daemons/
Anyone else know of some others?
