I have three machines all running redhat 5.1 connect through ethernet.
one machine(tulip) has a DNS server configured, running ip_masq. and it's
the gateway to the internet. The kernel on this machine has compiled to
support all the requirements of ip_masq.

On the other two machines, no DNS running. the default nameserver is
tulip. tulip is defined in the /etc/hosts file on these two.

        192.168.0.1 tulip.linbo.com.au tulip
        192.168.0.2 gong.linbo.com.au gong
        192.168.0.3 mozart.linbo.com.au mozart

I can telnet and ftp between these machines with no problem at all. but
strangely, I can not start "nslookup" on these two machines(gong &
mozart). nslookup will tell me :

*** Can't find server name for address 192.168.0.1: Non-existent host/domain
*** Default servers are not available

At the time of executing nslookup on these two machines . no ip-masq rules
are set on tulip. plus I didn't compile the kernel on gong and mozart. so
both of them are running the default kernel(2.0.34).

Does anyone know why this happens ?

Thank you.
