Just thinking off the top of my head, here. You could bring the
ethernet interface to the DSL down after hours; you could alter the
firewall rules and shut down all but selected stations. Cron can do
all of this for you, as you probably know. You can log the offending
packets, and present them to whomever as evidence.
On another tangent, take a look at Squid. It may be able to do
some authentication.
Hope this helps. On the logging, I have a need for this, but I
haven't started figuring out how to do it. Stay in touch, and maybe
I'll have something eventually.
Lastly, take a look at David Ranch's TrinityOS document. There
may be something there. If it hasn't moved, it's at
www.ecst.csuchico.edu/~dranch. The list archives may have the
address, if it has moved.
