I was floating through the Configure.help file today and noticed
a few things and thus came up a question for you:
First, I have (2) Updates:

Enabling masquerading automagically enables ip_always_defrag too.
Details on how to set things up are contained in the IP Masquerade mini-HOWTO,
available via FTP (user: anonymous) from
ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/mini; there's also some information
on the WWW at http://www.tor.shaw.wave.ca/~ambrose/kernel21.html.
These URLs are very old now. Since I took over the HOWTO, it
no longer is a mini HOWTO:

Just as an FYI, the whole Metalab domain was shutdown in favor
of the linuxdoc.org domain. Because of this, you might want to update
several other referenced links throughout your helpful doc.
Next, that ambrose URL is definately dead. The primary site for

Next, regarding the LooseUDP section
IP: UDP masquerading loose checkingCONFIG_IP_MASQUERADE_UDP_LOOSE Whether UDP
masquerading does address checking in a loose fashion.
As of 2.2.16, this option no longer exists but is automatically
put into a MASQ-enabled kernel. BUT, it isn't enabled by default.
to enable it, you need to do:
echo "1" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_masq_udp_dloose

This brings me to my question. I couldn't find this LooseUDP
ioctl ANYWHERE in the documentation. What would be absolutely
fabulous is a "ioctl.txt" file that would break down all the
/proc controls with their purpose, options, etc. For me, things
like the following in /proc/sys/net/ipv4 would be great for
the MASQ users:
ip_forward
ip_local_port_range
ip_masq_debug
ip_masq_udp_dloose
ip_no_pmtu_disc
ipfrag_high_thresh
ipfrag_low_thresh
ipfrag_time
ip_always_defrag
tcp_syncookies
ip_dynaddr
