We want to develop a server that will automatically detect new clients on the network and configure ip level services so they can talk to the world. Let me explain by a quick example; Salesman Al has a laptop with a ethernet card and a static IP address from his 'home'. Al is at an airport in another city and wants to plug into a ethernet port and get internet access on his laptop. Unfortunately Al is not very technical, and barely knows howto use MS Word. I want a server side solution that detects the ip on Al's laptop, and configures ip level services (ip alias, ip masq, etc..) so he can talk to the world. Elastic Networks (www.elastic.com) has a product called InterProxy that advertises these features. What I want to know is: are there any Linux based, open solutions for my problem?
