This forces the card to echo everything it received, effectively garbling the message and forcing a retransmission. When I reset them to half duplex, the traffic cleared up and I got expected throughput. You may have to boot the linux box into DOS to use the NIC configuration program, but you can do that from a floppy disk. Just use the PC to create a boot disk, add the NIC configuration stuff, and then use it in the linux machine.
