If you are running a caching nameserver on the gateway, I don't
understand why you have DNS traffic being masqueraded at all. Your
local clients should be have your gateway's private IP address
configured as DNS server, which means their queries should not be
forwarded/masqueraded. And likewise the gateway's queries to outside
servers should not be forwarded/masqeraded.
Something's amiss.
